In Carmel, California, Clint Eastwood introduced his new brew Pale Rider Ale, named for his 1985 western Pale Rider. "I'm not really in the business", Eastwood told The Monterey County Herald. "Anything I make will go to charity, like Paul Newman with his spaghetti sauce."

The Pasadena Federal Appeals Court upheld an October 1995 lower-court decision and ordered the National Enquirer to pay Clint Eastwood $150,000 in damages for publishing a fake interview with the Clint in 1993. The interview gave the erroneous impression that Eastwood was "washed up" as a movie star---courting publicity in a sensationalist tabloid.
