Actor. Born on September 15, 1946, in San Saba, Texas. Intense, tough-looking leading man of the American stage, TV and films, often in troubled or troublesome roles. He worked in the oil fields as a youth and became involved in acting at Harvard, where he majored in English. He made his Broadway debut in 1969 and his first screen appearance the following year. He returned to Broadway for several plays of the early 70's before resuming his film career in 1976. He won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of a convicted killer in the TV movie "The Executioner's Song" (1982). Always a respective actor, he became a box office draw in the 1990's with a spate of well-drawn performances, notably that of the smart, sardonic investigator in The Fugitive, for which he was awarded 1993's Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He is married to photojournalist Kimberlea Jones.
