Actor. Born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Clean-cut juvenile player, then husky, square-jawed leading man of Hollywood films. The son of Big Russell, a baseball player-turned-actor (deputy sheriff in "Bonanza"), he began performing in films and TV before his tenth birthday. He got his big break at 12, playing the title role in the series "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters' (1963-1964), and subsequently gained popularity portraying all-American boys in many Disney shows and movies. Following a prolonged time-out for a career in professional baseball, which ended in injury, Russell returned to acting with an Emmy-nominated portrayal of Elvis Presley in the TV movie Elvis (1979). Back in features in 1980, he made a bid for stardom the following year in John Carpenter's Escape From New York and for recognition as a serious actor in Silkwood (1983). Formerly married to actress Season Hubley, he shares a home in Aspen, Colorado, with Goldie Hawn and their child, born in 1986.
