Actor. Born on March 26, 1950, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Diminutive funny man of American TV and films. The son of an Irish-born steel executive and his concert-violinist wife, he began performing at McMaster University, where he majored in social work. After graduation he moved to Toronto, where he began his professional career in 1972, in a production of "Godspell". In 1977 he joined the Second City improvisation troupe and later performed with other members on SCTV. He made his first film appearance in 1979 but he scored his first success on TV as a zany participant in the 1984 season of "Saturday Night Live". He returned to the big screen in 1986, by then a popular comedian. His film successes have been modest in recent years. He made his Broadway debut in the musical version of "The Goodbye Girl" in 1993.
