Actor, dancer. Born on August 18, 1954, in Houston, Texas, educated at Harkness Ballet School, Joffrey Ballet School, San Jacinto College. Affable, graceful romantic lead of 1980's and 1990's. Son of choreographer Patsy Swayze, he began performing as a dancer in Disney on Parade. After appearing in the Broadway production of "Grease", he made his film debut in 1979 and established himself as a lead in the steamy musical-drama Dirty Dancing. As the sincere ghost-lover in the hugely successful Ghost, he became a box-office draw.
