Actor. Born on April 18, 1947, in Vernal, Utah, educated MIT. Wiry stage-trained screen lead, usually as foreboding types. After appearing widely on stage in Boston during his college years, he moved to New York and established himself in several off and on Broadway dramas, including "Conduct Unbecoming" for which he won an Obie. Debuted in film in the 70's and has since distinguished himself as an original, highly charged presence, equally able to project villainousness or moral ambiguity. Nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as an opportunistic journalist in Salvador. Won an Emmy for his performance as disturbed brother in TV movie Promise.
